Lakeland is committed to reaching beyond our health care facilities to proactively meet the health and human needs of the people of our community. The Margaret Beckley Upton Center for Health Enhancement serves all ages in our community through a wide array of health and wellness education and community benefit programs. These programs were designed to help enhance the quality of life for all residents of southwest Michigan.
Health Education Seminars and Classes
Programs offered by the Margaret Beckley Upton Center for Health Enhancement include education and management courses for diabetes, expectant parent education, car-seat safety, babysitting education and infant and child CPR and many other topics. Our Health Education section offers more information on the wide variety of classes and events available. Our Calendar of Events lists upcoming seminars and classes.
Lakeland’s Health Resource Library
Lakeland’s health resource library lends books, audiovisual materials, periodicals, brochures, offers online access and more. Patients, their families and community members have access to a broad range of relevant and current health information and resources. The library has specialized sections that focus on areas such as heart care, obstetrics, oncology, child care, as well as disease management, treatment and prevention topics. Patrons may check out books and other media materials for reviewing in the comfort of their own home.

The programs offered for women at the Margaret Beckley Upton Center for Health Enhancement are a part of Lakeland’s commitment to caring for the specific needs of women. We are focused on providing the resources you need to lead a healthy life both physically and emotionally. The services offered for women range from high-tech, high-speed digital mammography to the stress relieving pleasures of relaxation exercises, pregnancy and infant massage. Lakeland HealthLine: 800-303-8399
The Lakeland HealthLine is a toll-free number that provides immediate access to a registered nurse who will answer health-related questions and give physician referrals. The registered nurses of HealthLine offer information on most diseases and conditions, emergency information, drug interactions and more. This service also provides access to a medical network for families needing help finding a new physician, finding a physician specializing in a specific field, or for residents who are new to southwest Michigan. The HealthLine is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
RockWELL Wellness Program for Children
The Margaret Beckley Upton Center for Health Enhancement also offers the RockWELL wellness programs for elementary-age children. These programs are designed to teach children about health and wellness issues. The programs are free and provided as a community service. Each program features RockWELL, Lakeland’s wellness mascot. This lovable raccoon enchants elementary-age children as he teaches nutrition education, disease prevention, first aid and safety and personal health. A total of 15 health and wellness presentations are available, all geared toward children in kindergarten through third grade.
Each program is based on the Michigan Model of Comprehensive School Health Education, one of the most respected programs in the country.
