Our volunteers assist with a wide variety of items through out Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties below details some of the most common activities for our volunteers.  If there is an activity not shown that you would be interested in, please let us know!

Spiritual Care
Description:
Volunteer chaplains assist our hospital chaplain with patient visits.

Requirements:
Hospice chaplaincy training is required.  Volunteer must have a strong communication skills as well as exceptional customer service skills.

Companionship Visitors
Description:
Volunteers will visit an assigned patient weekly or bi-weekly in their care facility or nursing home.  This may involve reading, playing various games, helping a patient write letters to family and friends or simply talking to a patient about their life.

Requirements:
Volunteers must complete the Hospice orientation and training program.  Good communication and people skill are very important in this role. 

Respite Care
Description:
Volunteers will relieve the caregivers so they can run errands, sleep, or just get out for a while.  Volunteers will visit the patient in their home and be responsible to simply visit with the patient and keep them occupied while their caregiver is taking a break. Volunteers will not be asked to provide care for the patient unless they are trained.

Requirements:
Volunteers must complete the Hospice orientation and training program.  Good communication and people skills are very important in this role.

Homemaking
Description:
Volunteers in this role will need to be able to do a variety of task helping with light chores, doing dishes, planting flowers, raking, shoveling snow, etc.

Requirements: 
Volunteers must complete the Hospice orientation and training program.  Positive and personable attitude and ability to complete the task that are assigned.

Run Errands
Description:
Volunteers in this role may need to go shopping, grocery store, drug store, post office, deliver flowers, etc.

Requirements:
Must posses a friendly and accommodating personality and able to travel to various locations.

Office Assistance
Description:
Volunteers help with a variety of clerical tasks.  Duties may include assembling admission packets, sending out monthly newsletters, typing, making photocopies, etc.

Requirements:
Must be organized, able to read, write, and knowledge of  WordPerfect, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Bereavement:
Description:
Volunteers may phone or visit loves ones, after the death of a patient.

Requirement:
Must be a good listener, complete Hospice and Bereavement training, and have reliable transportation.

Crafts:
Description: 
Volunteers can assist in a variety of craft projects.  We are needing individuals that can create and assemble care packages, cards, stuffed animals, etc.

Requirements:
Must be friendly, open to instruction, and creative.

Fund Raisers & Special Projects
Description:  
These volunteers help with bake sales, creating and developing fundraising, and other special projects 

Requirements:   
Willingness to learn new things and make new friends!

Pet Visits
Description:
These volunteers must have pets that are current on all shots and have passed the CGC certification.  The volunteers will visit with their pets to patients homes, care facility, or nursing home.

Requirements:
Pet shots up to date, Pet CGC certified, friendly and willing to travel.  Volunteers must complete the hospice training and orientation.
