Internal Medicine Residency

Lakeland HealthCare offers an Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency. Our low trainee-to-faculty ratios are assured to provide our residents with an intimate quality residency experience. All of our attendings are board certified.
- 6 Positions Available for 2014
- Applications to the program will be accepted via ERAS beginning July 2013
- Interviews will be held October 2013 through December 2013
- Interviewees will not be ranked without proof of passing COMLEX II scores
Lakeland offers the Traditional Internal Medicine Track which emphasizes inpatient care and may be used to prepare for practice as an internist/hospitalist or for subspecialty residency or fellowship training.
Lakeland also offers a primary care internal medicine track emphasizing ambulatory continuity medicine with 20% of the resident's total time spent in the ambulatory continuity clinic.
Clinical Rotation Schedule OGME 1-3
Year 1 This first year provides residents with well-rounded experiences in traditional internship rotations. Residents will develop their core medical knowledge in order to learn the necessary skills to provide Internal Medicine care. The program includes the following in-house block rotations.
- 4 General Medicine
- 1 ICU
- 2 Block Nights
- 1 Cardiology
- 1 Women's Health
- 1 General Surgery
- 1 Emergency Medicine
- 1 Geriatrics
- 1 Selective
Year 2 The second year will focus on enhancing skills which will lead to efficiency in managing multiple patients in addition to expanding into more specialties.
- 5 General Medicine
- 1 ICU
- 1 Block Nights
- 1 Gastroenterology
- 1 Nephrology
- 1 Neurology
- 1 Pulmonary Medicine
- 2 Selectives
Year 3 In the final year, the resident will be able to manage a variety of patients leading toward graduation and practice as an independent physician.
- 4 Internal Medicine
- 1 ICU
- 1 Block Nights
- 1 Rheumatology
- 1 Heme/Onc
- 1 Encodrinology
- 1 Behavioral Medicine
- 3 Electives
- All three years will include ambulatory/outpatient clinic ½ day per week.
- Block nights entail one month of in-house nocturnist care.
- Call is service related (e.g. Surgery, OB/Gyn, etc.)
