HOT TOPICS Epic Selected for EHR Implementation The Lakeland Board of Directors has authorized negotiations with Epic as our preferred vendor for an electronic health record (EHR)system. Other vendors were eliminated after a multidisciplinary group of physicians and nurses visited Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids. The group observed the Epic software system in use and confirmed that it works well with patient workflows.
In 2009 Epic was named the #1 Overall Software Vendor by KLAS Enterprises, LLC. The rating was based on 40 separate performance measures. According to their website, about one of four physicians in the U.S. will use EpicCare when current rollouts are complete.

TECHNOLOGY Outlook Migration Requires Mobile Device Update The IT Department anticipates the migration to Microsoft Outlook from Groupwise to take place in the next couple of weeks. When this happens, physicians who access their Lakeland email through a mobile device, such as a Blackberry or other Smart Phone, will need to call the Help Desk at (269) 428-2005 to resync to the new email system. The Help Desk is staffed 12 hours each work day on-site, with several persons on call after hours and weekends, ensuring 24/7 response to associate questions and issues.
