Ownership and Governance

Lakeland HealthCare Community Hospital Watervliet is a community-owned, non-profit regional hospital located in Watervliet, Michigan. The hospital's not-for-profit status ensures all financial resources remaining after expenses are paid are legally committed to improving the technology, patient services and facility.

A 15-member, voluntary Subsidiary Board of Trustees, represents a broad spectrum of professional, business, and community leaders, and governs the Hospital. The subsidiary board is a self-perpetuating body that has authority to elect its new members. The Subsidiary Board members, whose only remuneration is the feeling that they have provided a service to the community, are dedicated to providing the best possible care available at the lowest cost to the consumer.

The Subsidiary Board of Trustees determine hospital policy and provide direction and counsel on management, administration, planning and development. Trustees are responsible for:

• Hospital compliance with applicable legal requirements
• Maintenance of professional and ethical standards of health services
• Sound financial management and operation of the Lakeland Community Hospital Watervliet 
• Selection and appointment of a qualified medical staff.

Subsidiary Board meetings are held monthly, but Trustees also serve on a minimum of one of seven committees of the Subsidiary Board. These committees meet separately from the Subsidiary Board of Trustees. These meetings are not open to the public. Following is a list of the current Subsidiary Board Members:
