Our volunteers assist with a wide variety of items at our continuing care center. The list below details some of the most common activities for our volunteers. If there is an activity not shown that you would be interested in, please let us know!
Activity Therapy Description: Volunteers provide assistance or help conduct activities that enhance the residents’ lives.
Requirements: Positive and personable attitude and ability to walk some distance while pushing an occupied wheelchair.
Alzheimer Unit Volunteer Description: Assist residents with their meals, as well as help out the Unit manager with various office tasks throughout your shift.
Requirements: Must have a positive outlook, have an encouraging voice, be non-judgmental and able to work one-on-one with patients.
Blood Drives Description: Assist with donor registration, escorting donors, serving refreshments and taking appointments for future drives Requirements: Friendly and accommodating personality and able to walk.
Auxiliary Board Description: Serve in a variety of capacities with the common goal being to enhance patient comfort at Lakeland on a committee such as scholarships, special projects and fund raising. Requirements: Must posses leadership qualities and be able to communicate effectively with all personalities.
Coffee Break Description: Volunteers help in the Lakeland cafeteria, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The Coffee Break service supports the Auxiliary fund raising projects. Requirements: Must be able to count change, operate a cash register and maintain a pleasant attitude.
General Office Assistant Description: Volunteers help with a variety of clerical tasks throughout the regular work week. Requirements: Must be organized and able to read and write and have a good phone voice
Corner Cupboard Gift Shop Description: Provide customer service by assisting customers with purchase. Proceeds are used for the Auxiliary philanthropy donation to Lakeland Specialty Hospital. Requirements: Must have excellent customer service skills and pleasant attitude.
Information Desk Description: Volunteers help at the Information Desk and serve as greeters to the visitors of the hospital. Requirements: Must have friendly, outgoing personality, be able to read, write, have limited computer knowledge and escort guests to their destination.
Mail Delivery Description: Volunteers deliver and set the daily mail to the residents and patients at Lakeland Specialty Hospital. Requirements: Must be able to read, write and follow directions.
Physical Therapy Transporter (Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m through 12:00 p.m or 1:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m.) Description: The volunteer transports patients between patient room and rehabilitation gym for scheduled physical or occupational therapy appointments. Additionally the volunteer assists in maintaining facility order and safety by cleaning equipment. Requirements: Must be able to handle variety of equipment, be organized and enthusiastic. Must be physically able to push occupied wheelchairs.
Resident Dining Room Server Description: Help residents get their food to their table, help them with their beverages and also help with clearing their tables. Lunch shifts are 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Dinner shifts are 5:00-6:30 p.m. Requirements: Must be pleasant , work well with elderly people, follow directions, have good communication skills and be able to physically carry food trays.
