Peter P. Lai, Ph.D., M.D., received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He then completed his residency in radiation oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. His "pre-medical" education consisted of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wisconsin State University and a Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Illinois, as well as a research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.
He has held academic appointments at Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis; the Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, where he also served as director of the residency program in radiation oncology; and at Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College, New York, as clinical associate professor.
Dr. Lai has published 17 articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored seven chapters in medical textbooks. To date, he has presented 27 abstracts at symposia and conferences around the world.
In addition to grants and other honors, Dr. Lai counts among his achievements serving with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Desert Shield/Storm in 1990-1991.
