Hospice at Home, a Lakeland HealthCare Affiliate, Announces Board Certifications - Archived
(ST. JOSEPH) – Lakeland HealthCare medical staff physicians Cheryl F. MacDonald, MD, and Christopher H. Strayhorn, MDiv, MD, recently achieved board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Both physicians scored within the top 10 percentile nationally on the board exam. Also, Nurse Practitioner Elizabeth Finley, DNP, FNP-BC, ACHPN, has achieved certification as a Hospice and Palliative Care Advanced Practice Nurse through the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.

Dr. MacDonald, Associate Medical Director of Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Hospice at Home, achieved board certification by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She earned her medical degree at Michigan State College of Human Medicine.
Before joining Hospice at Home in 2010, Dr. MacDonald worked as an Emergency Department physician at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph and Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles. She is also board-certified in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine and serves as a Berrien County Deputy Medical Examiner. Dr. MacDonald is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. She is also the President and owner of Bellissima Medical Spa and Laser Center in St. Joseph.
Dr. Strayhorn, Medical Director of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care at Hospice at Home, is board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
Dr. Strayhorn earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. His post-doctoral training included an Emergency Medicine rotation in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, as well as an Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Dr. Strayhorn has been a member of the Lakeland HealthCare medical staff since 1991 and most recently served as the Associate Medical Director of Hospice at Home, a Lakeland HealthCare Affiliate, and a Hospitalist at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. He is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, Michigan State Medical Society, and the Berrien County Medical Society.
Finley joined Hospice at Home in May 2010 and played a significant role in the development of inpatient and outpatient palliative care for the organization. Her experience as a nurse practitioner includes working in urgent care, adult health, radiation oncology, and cardiology. In addition to her certification as an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse, she is board-certified in Family Practice by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Finley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Indiana University at South Bend. She earned a Master of Science degree in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate, and Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from Valparaiso University. In 2011, Finley earned a Palliative Care Certificate from the University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. She is a member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.
