Lakeland HealthCare's Community Health Enhancement division is proud to partner with the
Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor, Michigan in Activ8 Kids! This program, a Community Benefit Initiative, will help fight childhood obesity and promote healthy lifestyles among children.
The goal of Activ8Kids! is to instill daily habits in children that include: eating at least five servings of vegetables and fruits each day; engaging in at least one hour of physical activity every day; and reducing "screen" time (television, video games, and recreational usage) to fewer than two hours a day.
Thirty students aged 11 to 15 years of age from the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor will participate in the pilot program. Each will receive a passport book to track their progress in the key areas, a pedometer with radio, and a water bottle.
"I'm excited about our partnership with Lakeland. The kids who are participating are choosing to be a part of the program.
We'll make sure to keep it fun so the kids will stay enthusiastically involved," said Joseph Corrado, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Harbor, Michigan. "Activ8 KIDS! will encourage the kids to set goals and objectives, aligning with our core life skills program that focuses on eating healthy and making good choices. The kids will learn a lot about health, themselves, and thinking ahead about how important being successful at these goals will help them be successful throughout life."
This site will feature a photographic diary of the kids' progress during the eight week program. Click on a date below to view the activity.
