One 3mL Lavender top (EDTA)
One 7mL Lavender top (EDTA) and
Two Gold top (SST) tubes

Volume

Pref. Vol.: 6.0 mL whole blood plus 14.0 mL clotted blood
Min. Vol.: 1.0 mL whole blood plus 3.0 mL clotted blood

Collection Instructions

• Fill Lavender top tube to at least one-half or greater of its vacuum capacity
• Routine venipuncture
Immediately after collection, gently invert tube 5-10 times

Transportation Instructions

• Do not remove serum or plasma from red cell portion of either specimen
• Refrigerate entire tube of both clotted and whole blood specimens
• Optimally, CBC (Lavender top tube) should be received for testing within 24 hours

Causes for Rejection

• Lavender top tube not filled to at least one-half vacuum capacity
• Contains clots
• Hemolysis in either tube
