Collection Instructions Routine venipuncture
Transportation Instructions • Clot 30 minutes with tube in an upright position
• Within 60 minutes of collection: Centrifuge and pour off serum into a metal-free plastic vial
• Do not use a wooden stick or pipette to assist with specimen handling
• Refrigerate
• If specimen will not be received at the laboratory within 48 hours of collection, freeze sample
Causes for Rejection • Specimen in contact with metal during collection or processing
• Serum transferred to an unacceptable container
• Serum not transferred within 60 minutes of collection
• Serum not frozen within 48 hours of collection
• Specimen collected in Dark blue (royal) top trace metal-free EDTA tube
