cobas® PCR Media Dual Swab Sample Kit

Collection Instructions

• Obtain collection packet containing transport media and two swabs

Site Cleansing
• Remove mucus from the cervical os and surrounding mucosa using the larger polyester woven swab and discard this cleansing swab.

Specimen Collection
• Collect specimen from the Endocervical canal using the smaller flocked swab.
• Place flocked swab into tube of cobas PCR Media to stabilize the specimen for transport to the laboratory.
• Break off top of swab to ensure that cap will fit tightly onto the transport tube.
• Label with patient’s full name, date of birth, source and date of collection.

Transportation Instructions

• Store at room temperature
• Transport to laboratory within 48 hours of collection

Stability

• 1 year (2-30ºC) in PCR sample kit

Causes for Rejection

Patient younger than 14 years of age

Specimen submitted in transport medium other than cobas® PC media dual swab sample kit.

Specimen received without a swab, with non-flocked swab or with two swabs

Specimens that are excessively bloody (specimen has a red or brown color)

Remarks

This test has not been evaluated in patients younger than 14 years of age
