Serving in Love

The Hanson Hospice Center is always appreciative of the generous support provided by our community. We are honored by the outpouring of love that routinely filters through our doors.

Recently, we received a visit from a group of children and their parents from the St. Joseph Church of Christ. These families made Valentine's Day wreaths to hang in each room, and spent time at the Hanson Hospice Center singing to and socializing with each person staying there. While we know the positive impact that these visits have on the people and their families staying with us, one mom in particular noted the impact the visit had on her children.

"We brought our children to the Hanson Hospice Center because it is important to serve in love," said Angela. "What I did not realize, is how much the tables would turn. Even though our new-found friends are toward the end of their lives, they gave all the time in the world to our children. Our children are learning so much more than service – they are learning stories of old Chicago, wars gone by, and most importantly, they are learning to put life into perspective. They are learning that life isn't about Facebook statuses, new video games, or the soccer game they had this afternoon. They are learning the gentle wisdom that comes as life ends; the wisdom in knowing that the only truly important things in life are the relationships you have, the kindness you share, and the precious memories with those you love. Everything else is unimportant. If we could all learn that lesson earlier in life, it would only change us for the better. Thank you to our beautiful new friends – our children are truly blessed because of you."

At Hospice at Home, we are so grateful to everyone who volunteers their time to benefit those we serve. Thank you for your service and support.
