Diagnostic Imaging

Ultrasound and Mammotome

UltrasoundUltrasound uses high frequency sound waves to obtain images of the body's internal organs. Many organs such as the heart, liver, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, thyroid gland, scrotum (testicles), uterus, ovaries and bladder can be examined using ultrasound. Ultrasound is also used extensively for prenatal exams to confirm that the placenta is healthy and that the baby is growing properly in the uterus. No x-rays or radiation are involved in ultrasound imaging. Studies have shown that ultrasound is not hazardous to your health.

At SWMC, we also use the ultrasound-guided breast needle biopsy with our mammotome machine for a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in the comfort and convenience of our office environment.

NOTE: Before your ultrasound exam, be sure to check with your doctor for any special instructions regarding eating food or drinking water. Also, be sure to wear comfortable clothing for your ultrasound exam.

X-Ray Services

SWMC's X-Ray department offers standard x-ray services. Registered technicians perform all radiographic services using high-quality, state-of-the-art equipment. Our highly qualified reception staff assists in copying films, filing, and distributing radiology reports. We send our films to another site, where they are read in a timely manner. We are committed to educating patients if they have questions about other radiology services such as special procedures performed elsewhere.
