The Power of Yoga

Yoga can help you too! Benefits of yoga include:

  • Decreased stress
  • Increased flexibility
  • Toned muscles
  • Lowered heart rate and blood pressure

If you’re thinking about giving yoga a try, there are many helpful resources and local classes where you can begin practicing yoga on your own.

Practice yoga on your own time or on the go with one of these mobile apps:

  • Daily Yoga (Windows, Android and iOS): Daily Yoga caters to a wide range of skill levels, and features yoga routines and a library of individual poses to suit different needs. The app also plays music during your practice and offers different courses, such as a weight loss plan, to help you achieve fitness goals.
  • Yoga 101 (iOS only): This app features 3 yoga classes designed for beginners. Users are encouraged to go at your own pace and practice when you can. If you feel like your skills are moving beyond the three classes offered, Yoga 201 and 301 are the next apps available in the series, and are also offered for free.
  • Simply Yoga (Windows, Android, and iOS): This app is great for learning the basics. It offers videos of each pose and the option of a 20, 40, or 60 minute workout routine.

Yoga

There are many different types of yoga that vary in intensity and focus. Research and ask about the type of yoga being taught to make sure it’s in line with your skill level and desired workout intensity.

Be careful when doing yoga. Like any other form of exercise, be sure to talk to your doctor before beginning, and listen carefully to your body. Know your limits, and be aware of when a pose or stretch might be causing strain on your body, especially on your back or neck.
