New Infection Prevention/Patient Safety Manager

(ST. JOSEPH) – Lakeland Health has named Karen Kaminski, RN, BSN, as Manager of Infection Prevention and Patient Safety. In this role, Karen leads a team of infection control preventionists in initiatives to prevent hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) at Lakeland facilities, and works with the organization’s patient safety advocates to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Over the past four years, Karen served as an analyst and trainer on Lakeland’s ConnectIT team, where she helped implement initiatives to utilize the electronic health record system to more quickly identify and treat sepsis for improved clinical outcomes. She also has nine years of experience as a nurse caring for acute care patients, including in Lakeland’s Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care Unit, Medical/Surgical Unit, and the Emergency Department.

Karen earned the Associate Degree in Nursing from Lake Michigan College and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Indiana University School of Nursing in South Bend. She is currently completing the Master of Science in Medical Informatics at Northwestern University.

A southwest Michigan native, Karen lives in Buchanan with her three children and enjoys running, volunteering in the community, and spending time with her family.
