Children with diabetes and their parents can escape the winter cold and attend Lakeland HealthCare's 10th Annual Diabetes: Kids' Activities event, scheduled from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, in the Frederick S. Upton Education Center at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph.
This free event is sponsored by the Plym Foundation in memory of Andrew Plym. The Plym Foundation has been a great supporter of Lakeland HealthCare and the healthcare needs of the community. Their generosity dates back to 1925, when they donated the funds to purchase and remodel the Dresden House, which became Pawating Hospital, now known as Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles.
Children ages 4 to 12 will have the chance to win prizes by participating in fun activities, while learning more about diabetes and meeting other kids with diabetes. Parents will have the opportunity to network with other parents of children with diabetes while learning about what is new in diabetes management and the latest care options for their child.
Two participants who are 8 to 12 years of age will be selected in a drawing to win a free scholarship to Camp Midicha, the American Diabetes Association's camp in Fenton, Michigan.
All children attending the Diabetes: Kids Activity Day must be accompanied by a responsible adult, who should bring any diabetes care supplies needed by the child to the event. Preregistration is required by Friday, February 22. To register or for more information, call (269) 556-2868.
