New Look for Niles BirthPlace

(ST. JOSEPH) –  The BirthPlace at Lakeland Hospital, Niles, was recently remodeled to provide a warmer, more home-like atmosphere for patients and their family members.

New flooring, ceiling tiles, paint, and artwork were installed throughout the entire department, including the five labor and delivery rooms, six postpartum rooms, and nursery. The post-partum nurses’ station, which is the first place that patients and visitors see, was also expanded for a more open, inviting look. On the walls throughout the department are color photographs of newborns, which BirthPlace team members say have already proven to be very popular with patients and visitors.

“Our goal was to create a happy place for anyone who walks through our doors,” said Tammy Jerz, RN, MSN, SANE-A, Manager of the BirthPlace. “These updates make a huge difference, because now our look matches the level of service we provide.”

Over the past year, the BirthPlace also welcomed two new physicians: Kenneth Kauffmann II, MD, MSE, and Eeka Marshall, MD, who are both Obstetricians and Gynecologists at Southwestern Medical Clinic Center for Women’s Health in Niles.
