Family Medicine Residency Curriculum PGY-3

In the final year, the resident will be able to manage a variety of patients leading toward graduation and practice as an independent physician. During this year the resident will hold three (3) half-days of continuity clinic.

Inpatient Medicine (1 block)

Medicine is completed at Lakeland Hospital, Niles. The residents work alongside attendings to provide care for a wide variety of disease processes. Generally, there is one senior level resident on a block who acts as med chief providing support to the junior residents. While on this block the resident team is expected to respond to all codes.

ICU/CCU (1 block)

This rotation is completed at Lakeland Medical Center, Saint Joseph. This rotation allows our residents to gain experience caring for the critically ill. Procedural experience is emphasized on this rotation.

Geriatrics (1 block)

This rotation is focused on the >65 year-old patient. This rotation is completed at our PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly) site in Saint Joseph and emphasizes quality care of the older patient, taking into consideration all risks and benefits that may be important for the patient during this stage of their life.

Family Medicine (1 or more blocks)

This elective enrichment rotation is completed in our residency clinic. It allows the resident to handle a full patient load and prepare them for career with an attending level patient load.

Electives (9-10 blocks)

Choose from over 30 different specialties of both inpatient and outpatient medicine to tailor your residency experience to your interests as well as provide you a well-rounded family medicine education.
