Clinical Research Trials

Trials Bring New Treatments to Southwest Michigan

Lakeland is proud to be one of 11 hospitals and healthcare systems that have joined to form the Cancer Research Consortium of Western Michigan (CRCWM) – to bring the highest level of clinical trials from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to the men, women, and children in our community.

Lakeland provides patients with the opportunity to participate in different prevention, control, and treatment cancer research trials, all here in southwest Michigan. These trials are the same trials offered at major cancer research centers.

There are key benefits for patients to participate in a clinical trial, including:

  • Helping to advance medical knowledge
  • Gaining early access to promising drugs that are otherwise not available
  • Possibly receiving free medications during the trial

Tumor Registry Program

The tumor registry is one of the major components of our cancer program. The registry staff, under the supervision of the cancer committee, is responsible for maintaining state and national cancer-reporting requirements, coordinating multidisciplinary cancer conferences, and providing support for all cancer program activities for accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

The registry collects data on all cancer patients diagnosed or treated at Lakeland Hospitals. The data collected contributes to treatment planning, staging, and the continuity of care for patients. Accurate and complete registry data is the foundation that permits Lakeland to plan and optimize its cancer program.
