Spectrum Health Lakeland is proud to have received the Perinatal Care Certification in recognition of how our team works together to provide safe, high-quality care for mothers and babies, from pregnancy through the first days of life. We are among only eight health systems in the United States that currently hold this designation, and is the first to receive the certification in Michigan and in the Midwest.
Blue Cross Blue Shield has recognized Spectrum Health Lakeland as a Blue Distinction Center+ for Maternity Care. This designation honors healthcare facilities with demonstrated expertise and a commitment to quality during the delivery episode of care, which includes both vaginal and caesarean section births. On average, Blue Distinction Centers+ are also 20 percent more cost-efficient than non-Blue Distinction Center+ designated health care facilities.
Choosing a provider
Before your baby is even born, it is important to establish a relationship with your obstetrician, or ob-gyn, who will give you the information and support you need to help you and your baby have a happy, healthy pregnancy. After your baby is born, selecting a provider who specializing in pediatric medicine is the next important step in your child’s healthcare. We are happy to help you find an obstetrician or a provider specializing in pediatric medicine to best meet your family’s needs.
Planning for delivery day costs
With a little planning you can worry less about the cost of care, and more about enjoying your time as a family. Financial counselors at Lakeland offer one-on-one guidance to help your family prepare for the costs of a birth. We can provide cost estimates for mom’s hospital delivery charges, review insurance coverage, and provide you with resources to ensure you are prepared for delivery day. Home-like atmosphere
The birth of a new baby is a much anticipated and wonderful experience. The BirthPlace at Lakeland is designed to make the arrival of your little one the most comfortable and joyous experience possible. Our BirthPlace provides a warm, home-like atmosphere for patients and their family members throughout the spacious labor and delivery rooms, postpartum rooms, and newborn nursery.
Get prepared
The Lakeland continuum of care includes a wide variety of educational classes that focus on the needs of your family from pre-conception through delivery and new infant care. All classes within the Lakeland expectant parent program are offered free of charge, but pre-registration is required.
Birthing suites
When it is time to deliver your baby the comfortable, family-centered birthing suites at the Lakeland BirthPlace feature the latest in technology with plenty of space for your family and loved ones. Our caring and experienced labor and delivery professionals will give you the information and support you need to help you feel relaxed and confident before, during, and after your delivery.
Breast feeding – the healthiest choice
Good for babies – great for mothers. The health benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby have been widely researched and proven. Learn more about the programs, services, and products offered by the Community Health and Wellness Department to help make the breastfeeding experience beneficial for both you and your baby.
Going home
Once you’ve returned home with your baby, a nurse will call you within the first few days to offer support and answer any questions you may have about the care of your baby. For specific questions or concerns, contact your pediatrician’s office to schedule an appointment.
