2017 United Way

Dear Lakeland Team Member,

I invite you to join me in transforming southwest Michigan by contributing to our 2017 Lakeland Health United Way Campaign. We'll be setting another positive example of touching hearts and living our mission of serving our community.

We know that you contribute in many ways, and there are many demands on your funds. Consider this: giving can be good for your health.

According to Stephen G. Post, Ph.D., author of Why Good Things Happen To Good People, generosity (and gratitude) have an incredible influence on our emotional health. When we practice giving, we're happier, more optimistic and have a lower risk for depression and anxiety. Giving can lower blood pressure, motivate you to exercise more, could help with heart health, may lower cholesterol, could help you live longer, will help you sleep better, and can reduce stress.

The 2017 United Way Campaign is the only community fundraiser that Lakeland will ask you to support this year. If you are a donor, please consider a 10% increase over your donation last year (see the "history" tab).

United Way is a global network that advances the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all by focusing on the four key building blocks of education, income, health and basic needs. The United Way movement creates long lasting community change by addressing the underlying causes of problems that prevent progress in these areas. LIVE UNITED is a call to action for everyone to become a part of the change.

Education - making sure our children have the best chances in life to succeed by obtaining a quality education.

Income - promoting financial stability and independence and teaching people how to build assets so they can support a family through retirement.

Health - ensuring that babies are born healthy and that people have the information they need to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Basic Needs - responding to a crisis and making sure people's basic needs are met until they are once again self-sufficient.

Through your support, we can help make our community stronger, thus making it a better place to live and work. Thank you in advance for touching the hearts of your neighbors in southwest Michigan. Together, we can make a powerful difference here in our community.

Regards,
