Collection Instructions

Specimens MUST be labeled with:
• Patient Name
• Date of Birth
• Blood Bank Armband Number
• Date of Collection
• Phlebotomist / Tech Code or Initials

• Immediately after collection, gently invert tube 5-10 times
• Do not centrifuge

Transportation Instructions

• Room temperature
• After 24 hours Refrigerated

Stability

• 24 hours at room temperature
• 72 hours refrigerated

Causes for Rejection

• Improper patient identification
• Specimen collection label incomplete
• Received more than 72 hours after collection
• Collected in gel barrier tube

Remarks

• Specimen is held for possible Cross-Match or Type & Screen
• No testing is performed
