Physicians: Bill Scott, PT
Tennis was always an important part of
Gina Anderson’s life. An avid player in college, Gina continued the sport as she settled into her post-academic life.
But Gina’s athletic career came to an abrupt halt when her right knee was injured during a tennis game. Tears to several major ligaments in her knee required surgery. Her doctors and a physical therapist told her that her knee would never be the same, and that she would no longer be able to play tennis.
After two and a half months of physical therapy in South Bend, Indiana, Gina was in constant pain, frustrated, and unable to walk normally. She worked out regularly at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, and that’s where she noticed Lakeland HealthCare physical therapists working compassionately with their patients — a change from the rigorous physical therapy she was used to.
With her knee still causing her pain and inconvenience, Gina began meeting with
Bill Scott, PT Clinical Specialist, at
Lakeland Rehabilitation Services, Niles, which is co-located at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA.
Gina said Lakeland staff members were friendly, welcoming, respectful of her time, and, more importantly, they were confident that she would play tennis again. She said she felt comfortable with Bill, describing him as “skilled and very patient.”
After only a week or two, Gina began noticing positive results. Bill kept working with her to help her reach her goal of playing tennis again.
In October 2010, Gina completed her physical therapy sessions with Bill and began playing tennis again that very winter. Her United States Tennis Association (USTA) team continued on to win the national championship title in September, with her playing singles in the summer of 2011. That accomplishment involved playing three matches per day, which she could not have competed if her knee had not healed so thoroughly.
“I owe it all to Bill and Lakeland,” Gina said. “I tell everyone to go to the Niles Y and see Bill.”
