Registered dieticians (RDs) hold degrees in science, with an emphasis on dietetics and nutrition. Insurance and Billing
Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy (MNT) for diabetes and non-dialysis kidney disease. Many private health plans also cover MNT for diagnoses such as diabetes, kidney disease, and heart disease. Contact your insurer if you have questions about your coverage. Insurance will be billed for patients with insurance coverage for nutrition counseling. Payment is expected at the time of service for patients with no insurance coverage for nutrition counseling. Financial assistance may be available.
