Mindy Flowers-Daisy knows how difficult it can be to feel grateful on Thanksgiving while someone you love is dying. Several years ago, she suffered the death of a beloved child. Now, Mindy is the founder of Pennies From Heaven, a local non-profit organization that offers financial assistance to  help cover living expenses and provide comfort for young adults during their battle with cancer.

"My son, Kory, and I spent many hours in the hospital during his three-year battle with leukemia," said Mindy. "Our most difficult holiday was Thanksgiving. For us, Thanksgiving is about family, but we were so far away from everyone that it was only the two of us together for the holiday."

Mindy called Hospice at Home and asked if it was possible for Pennies From Heaven to provide a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal for families with a loved one in residence at the Hanson Hospice Center. The Hanson Hospice Center accepted her generous, heartfelt offer, and on Thanksgiving day, Mindy and her crew of family and friends set up and enormous spread of Thanksgiving dishes, including crock pots filled to the brim with delicious turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings. Because of Mindy's empathy for families and patients spending the holidays away from home, Thanksgiving was a very special day for everyone at the Hanson Hospice Center.
