Let Me Call You Sweetheart - Ray and Marie Lietz

Jul, 2016

A 70th wedding anniversary is a rare and precious occasion. It takes long-term dedication and love, along with physical longevity and good genetics for two individuals to create such a strong and lasting bond. Ray and Marie Lietz know something about creating such a bond — they were both young members of Future Farmers of America (FFA) where they originally met, and were married on June 8, 1946.

Ray and Marie have spent a lifetime together making memories, enjoying their family, and sharing many laughs and celebrations. Despite Marie currently requiring support from Hospice at Home, the two would not allow changes in health to prevent them from celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary. As part of their celebration, the couple allowed Marie’s hospice team to celebrate with them in their home. The group shared cake and played the song “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” to Marie with Ray singing along to his beloved bride. The couple reminisced about their wedding day, and shared stories about the celebration. It was a joyous occasion for all due to the “spirits” being served, and the live five-piece band that performed for them. When asked about their secret for a successful marriage of 70 years Marie jokingly responded, “It wasn’t easy.” Beyond the joking and laughter the Lietzs continue to show that their love, dedication to each other, and strong faith are the building blocks that have created the foundation of this lasting relationship.

Congratulations Ray and Marie for the beautiful life you have made together.
