Community Groups Help with Spring Cleaning

Jul, 2015

Recently two groups from KitchenAid came to the Hanson Hospice Center for Whirlpool’s annual Day of Caring. The groups worked hard all day: re-staining wooden deck tables and chairs, landscaping, pulling weeds, and constructing a shed. Engineers from KitchenAid completely handled all elements of the shed construction including bringing their own tools and equipment. When it was evident that the shed was not going to be finished that day, the project leader recruited another group from KitchenAid to come back and make sure it was done. A third group pitched in to make sure the Memorial Garden at Hospice at Home in St. Joseph looked its best by moving rocks, dirt, and mulch.  They also weeded and planted flowers in the front of the Hospice at Home office.

Three groups from the First Church of God also came to the Hanson Hospice Center this month, for their Do Something Day. One group did a deep clean of the family rooms and other common areas while the other group played music and sang for residents. Another group worked outside, despite the rain, pulling weeds and cleaning up around the building.  Several church members also worked at the Hospice at Home office in St. Joseph on the Memorial Garden as well as mulching and planting perennials in the front gardens.

We are so grateful that KitchenAid and First Church of God return each year to Hospice at Home and also that the Hanson Center has been added as a site for both of these volunteer groups. The generosity of these groups has been a huge help in making our building and grounds a peaceful and beautiful place to be enjoyed by residents and families.
