Our volunteers assist with a wide variety of items at our hospitals and continuing care centers. The list below details some of the most common activities for our volunteers. If there is an activity not shown that you would be interested in, please let us know!

SJ ~ Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph    COPS~ Center for Outpatient Services
LCCC ~ Lakeland Continuing Care Center    MB ~ Meadowbrook

Admitting (SJ)    
Description:
Escort patients and provide information about patient rooms. Deliver newspapers to appropriate areas. Assist with clerical duties.
Requirements
Positive and personable attitude and ability to walk some distance while pushing an occupied wheelchair.

Auxiliary Board (SJ)
Description:
Serve in a variety of capacities on a committee such as scholarships, special projects and fund raising with the common goal being to enhance patient comfort at Lakeland.
Requirements:
Must posses leadership qualities and be able to communicate effectively with all personalities.

Blood Drives (SJ)
Description:
Assist with donor registration, escorting donors, serving refreshments and taking appointments for future drives
Requirements:
Friendly and accommodating personality and able to walk.

Baking Belles (LCCC)
Description:
Assist residents preparing and baking treats to be served for the afternoon Happy Hour program.
Requirements:
Positive and personable attitude and enjoy working in the kitchen.  

Bingo (LCCC)
Description:     
Assists residents who are visually or hearing impaired to play Bingo.
Requirements:
Positive and personable attitude.

Birthday Party Assistant (LCCC)
Description:
Assist staff in transporting residents to and from the monthly party and serve the cake and ice cream.
Requirements:
Positive and personable attitude and ability to walk some distance while pushing an occupied wheelchair

Care Partner (SJ)   
Description:
Assist staff on medical floors by responding to call lights, changing linens, assist with patient discharges and patient activities.  
Requirements:
Able to remain positive in a clinical environment and assist staff with a variety of patients and their immobilities.   

Community Outings (LCCC)
Description:
Chaperone and assists residents for outings to the County Fair; Wicks Apple Barn, Blue Chip Buffet, local restaurants, Celebration Cinema, Silver Beach, Christmas light tours, LMC Concerts, Brown Bag concerts and much more.
Requirements:
Positive and personable attitude and ability to walk some distance while pushing an occupied wheelchair.  

CCU Waiting (SJ)        
Description:
Serve as liaison between visitors and CCU staff and provide comfort to those waiting.
Requirements:
Must be non-judgmental and a sensitive listener and be able to communicate well with all ages.

Clerical (SJ, COPS, MB)
Description:
Assist with answering telephones, folding, stapling, preparing mass mailings and other projects as needed.
Requirements:
Must be organized and able to read and write and have a good phone voice.

Court Yard Café (SJ)
Description: Wait tables, take orders and clear tables. The Auxiliary uses café proceeds for philanthropic donations to Lakeland Hospital.
Requirements:
Must be pleasant and able to read and write, follow directions, have good communication skills and be able to physically carry food trays.

Craft Time (LCCC)
Description:
Wednesday’s from 2:30-4:00. We are always looking for new craft ideas and extra hands to help out. We have an annual craft show where Resident's sell their crafts to make money for special activities and supplies.  They make blankets, Christmas decorations, scarves, dish cloths, etc.
Requirements:
Positive and personable attitude and enjoy working with a variety of crafts.

Emergency Department (SJ)
Description: Transports patients from vehicles and to X-ray as directed by staff. Also provides 5-star customer service to patients and families waiting for treatment.
Requirements:
Positive attitude and good communication skills. Must be able to push occupied wheelchairs and be able to work in a stressful environment.

Endoscopy Unit (SJ) 
Description:
Assist patients with discharge, prepare room for next patient and keep supplies stocked.
Requirements:
Must be physically able to push occupied wheelchairs, change beds and lift supplies.

Gazebo Gift Shop (SJ) 
Description:
Retail with a reason! Provide customer service by assisting customers with purchase.  Proceeds are used for the Auxiliary philanthropy donation to Lakeland Hospital - St. Joe.
Requirements:
Must be able to stand and walk for 4 hours and have excellent customer service skills.

General Stores (SJ)
Description:
Unpack, label and inventory supplies, deliver supply items to nursing units and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Must have the ability to organize time and complete tasks.

Information Desk Greeter (MB)
Description:
Volunteers escort visitors to their destination, answer phones, provide clerical support and offer a friendly welcome to the facility.
Requirements:
Must have friendly, outgoing personality, be able to read and write and escort guests to their destination.

Joint Camp Coaching (SJ)
Description:
Work alongside physical therapist to provide one-on-one encouragement to patients doing therapeutic exercise.
Requirements:
Must have a positive outlook, have an encouraging voice, be non-judgmental and able to work one-on-one with patients.

Knitters (Your Home)
Description:
Knit newborn baby caps or blankets for the newborns from the comfort of your home.
Requirements:
Must know how to knit, follow directions and deliver caps and blankets to the hospital.

Pharmacy Assistant (SJ, COPS)
Description:
Assist staff by stocking inventory, performing in-house deliveries and filling orders.
Requirements:
Able to read and walk a distance.
                                     
Rehab Assistant (COPS)
Description:
Clean and straighten treatment areas and therapy equipment, disinfect toys; and assist clinicians in treatment activities.
Requirements:
Must be able to handle variety of equipment, be organized and enthusiastic.

Surgery Unit (SJ, COPS)
Description:
Assist staff with patient transportation, bed cleaning, linen changes and other physical tasks in both pre- and post-surgery.
Requirements:
Willing to follow direction and physically able to maneuver beds.

Surgery Waiting (SJ)
Description:
Serve as liaison from unit to family members.
Requirements:
Pleasant personality with ability to read, write, answer phone and communicate effectively.

Volunteer Office (SJ)
Description:
Assist with quarterly newsletters, mailings, and other clerical duties.
Requirements:
Positive outlook, able to read, write and follow directions.
