(ST. JOSEPH) – March 26 is American Diabetes Alert Day®. During the month of March, Lakeland HealthCare is supporting the American Diabetes Association’s “wake-up call” in urging community members to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes high levels of sugar in the blood. Over time and without treatment, diabetes can lead to many serious health problems.
Area residents are invited to call Lakeland to determine their risk factors for developing diabetes. Participants may be eligible for a free fasting blood sugar test by appointment based on their risk factors. For more information about the screenings or to take a risk assessment, call (269) 556-2808 or (866) 260-7544.
Also, Lakeland Diabetes Education will offer a free class about preventing diabetes in Niles. Everyone is invited to attend; preregistration is encouraged by calling (269) 556-2808.
